Holy Shit Yeah! Kept the effort steady the whole way. That was the only way I'd manage this time. Hit the 5K at about 18:35, about 10 seconds slower than I ran Mayor's cup two weeks ago. Felt good and knew I'd need to work the last two miles. It felt like I ran the Wilderness and Bear Cage faster the second pass than the first today. This was my third time racing in Franklin Park and I'm starting to understand how to work the course. It can be tricky but is starting to endear itself to me. I turned the last corner and the clock came into focus at 29:00! WTF!?! That gave me an extra kick as I knew there was no way in hell I'd let it tick 29:30 before I ran past it. Despite being spent I felt great at the finish. The 300+ mile October paid off big time. Last year I ran over a minute slower coming off a PR Marathon. It's been a hell of a lot of work to improve upon that.
