Notes

Went with the aggressive (for my fitness) goal of getting a BQ (sub 3:10) and did it with 4 seconds to spare. I'm happy. Next year I get another 5 minutes.

Took miles 1-4 so easy-easy-easy. Ran the the hills in miles 5-10 nice and easy, never pushing. Really hit a groove in miles 11-19 and just went with it. These were some of the most enjoyable marathon miles I've ever raced-soo easy. Miles 20-22 were so-so. Miles 23-26.2 were pure guts. My body actually cracked at the 25 mile marker but I refused to give in. I kept checking my watch and doing math and finally realized I needed to run a 90 second 400 to meet my goal. That I did, finishing the last third mile at sub 20 5K pace. Clock said 3:09:53 as I ran under so I knew I had it.

Never was passed from mile 11 but passed many all the way to the finish. Glad I trusted the Garmin and didn't run with anyone. They were all fading. Finished against the field much, much better than expected. I can't wait until I actually get in shape and not fat.

Half splits: 1:35:07 / 1:34:49

A very warm 50 at the start and a hot 75 at the finish. Temp kept shooting up so finishers behind were likely contending with 80+. Periodic headwinds from mile 17. No clouds. Seems to have been a tough day for many. Only 5 went sub 3.

Yes. You also told me to stop looking at my watch once the hills were done. That probably explains my best miles when I just rolled with it and got the extra time I needed. Thanks. Fortunately my garmin finished with 26.36, otherwise I would have been screwed.
