Sometime in April I threw my name in a raffle for this race and accidentally won. Figured I might as well run it.
4:30 am alarm and 90 minute drive for the 8am start. Wasn't feeling great but figured that was normal and I'd settle down. Unfortunately the running was heavy but I could manage 6:20s. Half way through I was getting uncomfortable. Figured I'd make it as I passed the porta john but a mile later I just pulled off course without thinking and let it loose in someones side yard. Shit! Was uncomfortable getting moving again but could still manage 6:20s. Didn't have that extra gear, could just pace it to the end. Passed 6th & 5th places with about 2.5 to go and put a minute on them by the end.
Earned some maple syrup and the stomach battle then raged badly for a few hours. Had to skip the post race pizza and beer. Several stops later I made it home.
