Notes

Wound up 6th overall with official time of 34:16. I was really happy with this race. Leading up to it, I had a really twingy left hammy and sore right Achilles, but with the day off before and the warmup feeling ok I knew I was going to get after it today. The plan was to just start moderate and plain and simply race. The 321 countdown was yelled and we were off. I settled into about 11th place in the first few hundred meters. Then people stared to just come back. I was in 5th by a mile in and felt pretty good cardio wise and ok leg wise. Devin had walked her pregnant self right up to mile one and she was there to cheer me on! I knew that the second miles was the most difficult and I just kept telling myself not to walk! I never really felt like I HAD to walk, but I was getting leg tired by mile three. I am going to revise my previous comment from a few years ago and say that its a good idea to hammer the flat spot in the last .7, but just know there is a legit .2 of solid up before the finish. There was one guy that had passed me during mile two and I was in 6th. He was up on me by a solid 20 seconds in mile three, but I started to reel him in during the last .7. I might have started my kick a bit early as I just couldn't get by him right at the end. Either way this should put me better than I had hoped for Washington next week. I would say that if I have a good day, I could be under 1:20:00 and if I have a great day under 1:17:00. Looking forward to seeing what next week brings. Also I got a ride down to save my quads and I think that was a HUGE great idea. I feel great only a few hours later right now.
