Notes

This turned out to be a solid run for me. I didn't expect that at all. I was dreading this run today because I woke up for karate class incredibly tired, but pushed myself to get there by 5am to spar with Tim. After karate class, I was not ready to run my 15 miles, though my original plan was to start it at 6:30am after class. I decided to go straight to work.

My intention was to then run it late tonight but I knew things might not work out as planned.

So, in the end I was thinking I would swap days: run Thursday's 5mi run today, and do the 15 miles tomorrow morning.

To top things off, when I began my run at lunch my Garmin died because of low battery. I was only 1/2 mile into the run, so I decided to use RunKeeper on my iPhone starting at mile 1 (I know the 1 mile marker). As I finished the second mile, I started to reconsider my choice, and decided that after four miles, I would see how I felt and keep running to aim for 15. Well, I felt pretty good and the cool weather was a blessing. I pressed on and just kept running, plotting out a course in my head across Route 1 to Forrestal Center and beyond. Unfortunately, it began to rain. At times the rain was pretty hard so I found a plastic bag in the bushes by the side of the road and used it to cover my iPhone. The rain cooled my off further though, and it felt great. The thing about using RunKeeper is that I didn't have audible alerts configured, so I just kept checking to see when I arrived at 7.5 miles to turn around. Once I reach the turn-around point, I didn't even look at it again. I just ran comfortably and was surprised to see an average 8:00 pace. My knee pain was minimal and I had no calve pain. I'm pretty happy with this run and am SO glad I don't have to do it tonight or tomorrow :)

Nice work! Glad it ended up working out. I've been in similar situations and once you are out running, you are able to keep it going even when in your mind you might have been dreading it. Sometimes I use it as a trick. I'll say to myself I'm just going to do a few miles because I don't feel that great, but then I feel better once I start my run. Keep it up, Frank!
