My legs have still been sore since the half marathon; in particular my left quad and right upper calve muscle. Massage and PVC rolling helped tremendously, especially my calve, such that I didn't have any more calve pain Tuesday night or during this run. I did yoga Monday night which also helped, but WIll Power and Grace class at lunch on Tuesday left my hamstrings incredibly sore on Wednesday. Combing that intense soreness with two karate classes and pouring rain, as well as a very bust schedule at work, I couldn't run at lunch and ended up skipping Wednesday's run. So I postponed it until today. I think it was a good choice because this run instilled confidence in my prep work again. I had felt a bit down after Sunday's 20 miler, but today's run was great. I had to make it back for a 2pm meeting and didn't get started until about 12:15. I did math in my head, and realized that 12 miles at an 8:00 pace would take me 80+16 = 96 minutes. That would be cutting it really close. I figured I would be late for the meeting, but then I noticed my mile splits were getting close to 7:30. With that in mind, I figured it might be possible to hit 90 minutes and pushed a little bit harder. Past the half-way point, some of my splits were below 7:30. My overall time was 89 minutes. My left knee had a few moments of sharp pain, but for the most part I was pain free. I finished the run at 1:45 and had time to shower and made it to my meeting on time.

Wow!, great work. I love that this run is categorized as Recovery/Speed. What exactly is that? That's when you take it easy to let your muscles recover by pushing them to go faster :)

I'm glad you are taking the time to rest and then hitting these workouts. Don't do too many hard ones. You only have a couple weeks left before the race! What's the expression of that famous running coach? Something like "The hay is in the barn" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Spivey
