Notes

I had planned to finished 12 miles by 7am, but got a late start and had only finished 10 by 7am. I then met up with the HATRs training for the Rutgers Half at 7am. The first mile with them was slow (8:53), but then we picked up the pace. After four miles with the group (14 for me), I was leaving some of the runners behind, so I circled back on Tar Heel road and caught up to them again. It was very helpful having other runners out there to play catch-up with. At mile 14/15, my left knee started bothering me but I pressed on. I struggled with it for about a mile, then recovered. I stayed fairly strong through the run, and was glad to have two Powerbar GUs at my disposal and two bottles of water. The weather was cool, but I still enjoyed the cool water. After turning around at the Burger King on QB Road, I got ahead of the runners again, so ran the loop at Tar Heel again, but it took longer to catch up because I didn't have quite the same lead this time. I caught up to Butch and Carlo as we neared the end of the park path and passed them. Carlo spilt away from Butch for the last 4/10th of a mile to run at my pace. He did a great job keeping up and I encouraged him to be steady until the end. Once we reached the parking lot, I turned around to finish my 22, then add another 0.6 to make 22.6 in order to hit 70 miles for the week. I thought I might see Charlie, Shaina and Mike when I turned around (since they were behind us) but after 0.7 miles back I turned around to wrap up, not finding them. They finished strong, and it was Shain's first 10 miler.
