Notes

Chicago was a really cool marathon. Went with Chris and Amanda but Amanda stayed outside of downtown with one of her thousands of cousins. Weather turned in our favor. Yes we got a good bit of rain but the temperatures stayed at 60 degrees. Thank you!

Logistics were easy even though a big race. So well organized. Expo was very good. Met Jordan Hasay who had the fastest American woman marathon debut ever in 2017.

My race was my 2nd fastest and fastest since 2013 Steamtown. Without the calf problems, I would have beat 3:50. I was getting more tired but wouldn't have been a problem to keep a 9:15 pace for the last 3 miles. That would have cut off the 1:55 over the 3:50.

I believe the Hanson's program worked again but I'm having problems late in the game with misfiring muscles.

What's with all the crazy intervals?

The last 4-5 miles really took a toll.....what were you feeling then?

Colorado Gump

The buildings downtown are painful to GPS. I had an extra .75 miles by the Mile 5 marker, so I lapped my watch then to sync back up. I lapped again at 10 miles and at the half marathon mat. The watch stayed consistent after the first 5.75 miles.

I had full on right calf seizure in mile 22+ and had to gear down and baby step and walk at times to not have it completely go out on me. The left one started to "bark" also, so the last 3 miles were unpleasant. I would have easily broke 3:50.

Great race. Putting on my list of must runs.

Congratulations! GPS really does get messed up on this race. I think it showed I ran 27 or 28 miles when I was done. So wrong!
