The lead-up to this race was tough: after overusing my hamstrings on Monday, I developed strain-like issues in both legs, making them incredibly tight and tender. I was worried I wouldn't be able to race at all, but luckily I could run full speed by Thursday, and I was in like-new condition for the 5K.
The race itself felt good for the first half as I stuck with the lead pack for a 5:14 first mile. My breathing kicked in as a limiting factor soon afterward, and it slowed me to 5:33 and 5:45 for the next two. The kick could've been stronger, but I'm happy with the race overall. I'm certainly not back to high school fitness (haven't put in the work for that), but this was my best 5K of college, and it was a very fun night, and I enjoyed finishing it with so many of you all!
