Notes
Sandhills Marathon, 5th OA, 3rd Male
Tough course and conditions. Slight uphill and into a strong wind for the first half. Also, temperature was 67 at start and stayed warm. Wind changed directions and was mostly a cross-wind on the return trip.
I ran comfortably at a “conservative“ pace, or so I thought, in the 7:20-7:30 range. With the strong winds, I didn’t realize how much I was sweating. I probably didn’t drink enough early on.
Cramps by mile 23 — the usual.
I was there with Mike, who took 2nd OA! Without the cramps, there was a chance I could’ve negative split and maybe caught up to Mike. Instead, I got chicked twice in the last 3 miles.
Cool “Spur” medal!
