Hope it's legit, felt like a fast one anyway... certified course but sometimes that doesn't mean much, but it almost completely followed a paved path so really no way to change it from year to year. Happy with the time, ended up coming in 2nd. Met the guy who won today (16:18) back in May at Floppin Flounder (3rd by 1s to me there). He lives in Hilton Head but his girlfriend is in Charleston so he comes up here to race from time to time. Messaged me yesterday asking me if I was racing this weekend and I told him I was signed up for this one... if I had kept my mouth shut I would have gone home a little richer! Haha but nah glad he came, wouldn't have run the time I did without him. Plus I'm a VERY rich man already. Back in May I don't think he had broken 17 before (despite a 1:16low half shortly thereafter) and his goal was to get to 16:30 when I talked to him back then, but he's apparently been getting up to 100mpw training for the Marine Core marathon... STRENGTH=SPEED. Guy played lax in college but has been getting more and more into running (clearly) #meatonthebone.

Anyway, nice course, basically a big loop on a paved trail that finished with ~100m on grass. Met up with Dan beforehand, we warmed up together and sounded like we were aiming for about the same time. He just got out harder in first mile and I was never able to close it down, though I got a little closer at the end. Maybe could have taken it if I hadn't let him put that gap on me early (or if I had manned up at the end) but he was probably winning today no matter what. 3rd place guy was a really solid HS senior looking to run at Clemson, seemed like he had a good head on his shoulders. He trailed me for a mile before taking over for probably about 3/4mi, then I took it back and distanced myself. Tried to close it down on Dan from then on but really never made up any ground.

Fun event, got a little Fleet Feet money and a solid time so can't complain.
