Still not really sure what I think about this one. Coach had been emphasizing a "sit and kick" strategy this past week, but when the heat sheets came out, I was seeded first in the slow heat (indoor LL throwback?). Next guy was a 4:25 seed, and since I was hoping for 4:15, I told Coach I was going to have to lead it. He agreed but told me to be patient and not to kill myself before the last lap. I took the lead straight from the gun and controlled the shit out of that race lolz. Thing is, in not wanting to kill myself too soon, I got a little too comfortable with the pace. Not completely sure, but I think went something like 51-71-73-67. The good part was that I was comfortable and controlled the entire race and wasn't straining. HOWEVER, that's probably because I was running a 2:24 middle 800, so........ yeah. Really though, this is the first race where I felt like I actually was able to kick since... I don't know, that Purple Valley 5K in XC probably, and kicking (slash, not getting tooled on) felt pretty durn awesome. Not like I was blazing up that last lap or anything but it was a pretty decent pace considering the rest of the race.

But y'know, all in all, it's a slower time than I ran last time so I don't know. It's always nice to win a heat but I definitely could have used some help. 4:25 dude was totally just sitting on me the whole time and let me do the work into the wind (DUDE TOTALLY WANTED TO OUTKICK ME, nice try bud). I liked that I had a strong last lap, but I basically just waited 3 laps for a 300m kick, so I need to find a balance. I was ignoring Jarrett telling me I was slow, because even though I was and knew it and COULD have gone faster, I was waiting until lap 4. Coach seemed satisfied though, especially after last week's 800, just because I ran smarter and did what he told me to do. I think he'll put me in a 1500 this weekend again, just to see what I can do with some better competition.

But I mean, overall, yeah it was slow, but at the very least, it wasn't slow because I was tired or COULDN'T go faster.

So there's that.
