Last race of the series but with appearances from Chris Bailey and Jay Upchurch, I had to settle for 3rd, though I had the series win locked up. I am reasonably happy with the time, though... Pretty sure there's 30s to lose on the course alone, let alone in good weather, but we'll see soon enough. Was 22s behind Chris and 7s behind Jay, and they're no slouches so I'll take it (for comparison was 70ish behind Chris on July 4).
Weather wasn't great but it was the best yet so I wanted to give this one a good effort from the gun. Very humid but temp only ~80. Decided to just see how long I could hang with Chris (sadly only ~2mi as it turns out) which probably cost me 2nd but oh well. When Jay passed me I checked out mentally a bit but wish I hadn't because he really wasn't far ahead at all. 5:17-5:21-5:35 (pace for 1.1), so a little ugly but I'm happy to have gone for it rather than play too safe.
If nothing else, I'm definitely in better shape heading into SPAC this year than last year seeing as I only managed about the same on the roads in a morning race last year. We'll see #suchajoke
