OOF, that one got HOT. Dumb of me for waiting so long but I woke up at 8:30 just at the start of Chicago and decided to watch it while I did chores around the apt. I knew that would make it over 80 by the time that I ran but what I failed to consider was the lack of shade at that time, which def made it worse. All in all, though, not too bad, but I was burning up on those last two miles and ended up cutting short of 15.

Got outside and figured it might be a slow one with the weather (only started around at a humid 82 but knew it would heat up). Saw the first mile split and thought ok that's slow, but if that's what it has to be then so be it. Turns out that split was a definite outlier, though the effort stayed about the same for the next 8 or so. Was very actively trying to restrain myself so that I wouldn't bonk... in the spirit of the Chicago commentators, I kept telling myself that this run starts at 10mi. Heat finally started setting in around 12, but I was apparently holding it together just fine still, although you can definitely see an upwards trend starting in those final miles. On a cooler day with legs feeling the same way, those miles could have been a good amount faster because I never really got a chance to open up the stride. Wanted 15+ but was considering 14 even before the run, so wasn't disappointed in having to go a little short.

Pleasantly surprised with how effortlessly the pace came today in these conditions. Another rock solid week in my opinion. Not perfect, but I'm certainly happy with my progress at the moment. We'll see where I'm at with the 5k on Saturday.
