4x1600 @ 5:20, 1 min standing rest
4x800 @ 2:25-7, 400 jog rest
One of the tougher workouts I've done recently but I'm fairly satisfied with it, especially for solo. The general idea of the WO was to settle into slightly faster than tempo pace for the first 2/3, then work on getting uncomfortable in the last 1/3, like an exaggerated 5K. 1600s were very smooth, had no trouble locking into 80s. The 800s were definitely tougher, even with spikes (trying to do a little in spikes each week so I don't get wrecked by them when I race finally). There was wind on the backstretch that was kind of annoying during the 1600s, but definitely hurt during the 800s. (Gotta be prepared for that at RPI, though...) Still, was more or less where I wanted to be on those until the last one, where the wind/workout took its toll on me and lost focus in the middle, but managed to get back into the right pace for the last 200 of it at least.
This was still meant as a transition day, moving away from tempo work and into interval work. Obviously I don't expect 2:26s to feel easy yet, with this being my second or third-ish day doing anything resembling intervals, but they were tougher than I'd like for what should be a good enough rest. But, one workout at a time... 16 days!
