Pay no attention to the times haha, Roxbury is not where you go to run fast. Did today's Roxbury Race as a more fun way to tempo. Admittedly wanted to win since I never have won one (whenever I'm in good enough shape to win, Taylor comes too), but wasn't going to race to do it... didn't expect I'd need to, and didn't have to. Easy W!
Didn't want to lead at first to make sure no studs had come today (they show up once in a blue moon). Dawdled right behind the two leaders before realizing woohoo I'm the stud today! Still, was in no rush to lead... it's more fun that way haha. First mile a hair under 6, chilling side by side with the only guy left by then. Picked up on the next mile but it was downhill admittedly, just under 5:40. Right before the 2 mile mark I made the tiniest of surges that seemed to break the guy I was with. The third mile was almost all uphill and I got to make use of my Brookfield hill skillz. That one 6:05 but definitely good for much faster (check dat map, flattens out to 5:18). Dusted everyone there, and then got rewarded with an amazing gradual downhill for the last .6 or so, opened up and cruised in around 5:10 pace feeling smooth AF. Stood around for about 3-5 min as I exchanged pleasantries with the timers and the top few guys and then added on just shy of a mile tempo on my own. Felt so fresh on that and regret not doing 10 min now but oh well, slow and steady.
Fun stuff, nice temp around 40. Good for about 5:32 pace on flat, and with such a dawdling first mile I'll take it. Was worried I'd be tired from mileage today but felt very good. Opened up about a min on 2nd in the last 1.5 ha. I know these races are nothing important but for how long I've been going to them (even if it's only a couple of times a year), it's nice to actually have won one! Especially doing so without having to race it, ha.
