Notes
Downsides: Pacing. I didn't give any thought to pacing at first, and went out much too fast. Time at mile 1 was 7:02. After that, I thought about it, but didn't do much adjusting. Still 47:nn at 10K. That's probably why it felt like an exceptionally hard race - the hardest so far. Had I paced right, surely I could have run the race five seconds faster, which would have moved me from third place to second, and a cash prize! A look at my calendar shows that I had, for various reasons, three weeks of taper rather than just one. If this had followed a series of 20 mile weeks, I would have done better. In general, I prefer the morning races. Feel pretty sore and tired the next day, and my toes took a beating.
Upsides: Wanda was there for support. My placing was good, pace was good, if uneven. McMillan calculator says this would have beat ALL my previous PRs! (http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/cgi-bin/calculations.pl) Can't really complain all in all.
