Goal: 6:00
Woke up not feeling very run-ready, so did a couple laps around the school, and quite a bit more warming up on the field. Chatted with several out-of-state and local runners before the race. I lined up number 7 in a single row. At the gun went out at what I hoped was mile pace, which is almost but not quite top speed. It turned out to be perfect as I was at 1:28 on lap one. Lap two, however, was 3:05, and I despaired of making my goal. I was sure I was going to flag more in the last two laps. Interesting in the final stretch I was hearing footsteps behind me, and thinking in a detached way how at this point I don't care if someone passes me, and how I probably should care. I was not enjoying the race. I ran it in, still sure I had missed my 6:00 goal.
After the race I hung out and watched Greg's heat, then went and sat with June, Marty, and Amy. Amy gave me a much-appreciated banana from her purse. She's a track mom.
