Notes

Got to the field at 7:30, when there was easy parking behind the bleachers. Ran an easy warmup lap, then hung around. HS heat was 1, mine was 2. We lined up 11 across, were introduced to the 4 in our AG: Lou S, Stan, me, and Lyle L. Took off at the gun, got 1/4 of the way around the first curve, heard several more gunshots. Yes, we were being called back. A false start in a geezer 3000? Not really; just the finish line crew wasn't ready. Restarted, and took positions of Lyle, Lou, me, and Stan. Pretty boring race, because our positions didn't change throughout. Lapped a few of the older guys and women in the backstretch. By lap 6, Lou had about 50 yards on me. Lyle had more than that on Lou. I picked up the pace, especially in lap 7, and closed to about 25. In the after-race handshakes, Lou said I was pushing him pretty hard. Breathing hard, anyway. in lap 1 I had extreme dry mouth, something I haven't dealt with before, but it went away.

Got home, got online, and they had me as DNS. Huh? Went back and went to the awards booth first. Yes, they had my sticker where it belonged on the sheet, and yes, it had my name, not someone else's. Went up to the press box and reported it to the timekeeper. He said the camera had gone out during that heat; asked me what my time was. I told him I came in about 10 seconds after Lou. So, that's my official time. I guess I could have told him anything.
