Notes

Immediately after the Governor's Cup, I voiced considerable doubt about being able to do it three times, which is what a marathon would entail. Wanda said though, "you wouldn't run a marathon like this." Yeah, she's right, and that was greatly encouraging. Forecast for Halloween sounded quite nice, so last night I decided to plot a long run. I hadn't planned on it being this long, but as I plotted it, I was thinking about the marathon comment and my failure to pace myself on the GC, and decided this was as good a time as any to see what I could do on a pretty long run.

I started out thinking I need to establish a pace that I feel like I can sustain all day. I think I succeeded, and kept the pace pretty constant throughout. As I had hoped, I never felt the need to stop for air, and as I expected, my legs were showing some tiredness in the last few miles. No wall at all. It all felt very good.

From mile 9 on, I was dealing with the need to pee. I decided I was going to tough it out. and it was pretty tough/uncomfortable. In a marathon, there would be porta-potties, of course.

Now that the math has been done, I'm really in awe of my pace!!! :-))) I'm thinking a BQ may be possible!

Knowing this was going to be long, and there wouldn't be any water stops, I prepared pretty carefully. I got a good night's sleep, and ate a good pre-run breakfast - a thing of yogurt, a few dry Cheerios, some juice, and lots of water.

Temperature during the run actually rose from 40 to 56 degrees. Distance is Lincoln Long Run nine miles plus Add-On.

Happy. Sore.
