La Crosse

Notes

A tour of La Crosse with Naomi after my run and a few brownies. We started off through town past UWL and to the riverfront. More bike paths and quiet roads and sidewalks until we got to the State Trail. I noticed it had a pass requirement but Naomi didn't know anything about that and we continued. It was a lovely dirt/crushed limestone path for several miles before hitting Onalaska. After some in-town biking we were back on the good stuff and next to the water.

We stopped to turn around at a road crossing and I ate my clifbar. Across the road another biker was asking for directions from a truck that had just stopped. It seemed odd that the truck had stopped in the first place but unfortunately, I didn't put it together fast enough and we should have bolted then. I realized this was a DNR guy as he pulled a U-turn over to our side. I figured it would be more suspicious to quickly jump on our bikes now but it didn't matter. He hailed us and gave us violations for not having passes. I was a bit peeved and let Naomi do most of the talking. After far too many minutes he let us go. We didn't have any fine other than the normal day pass thankfully.

We returned on the State Trail before taking a shortcut through the marsh bike path. It was quite a unique bike path but pretty busy. A longer ride than anticipated and slower due to many stops. I never felt strong on the ride but at least was very tired at the end.
