Bike ride from Cedar Falls to Cedar Rapids along the Cedar Valley Nature Trail with Rachel. This was a goal all summer and I'm glad to have done it. Some highlights:

-Probably should have checked construction as right away Evansdale had several parts of closed paths. After debating bushwhacking or turning back, we backtracked several miles and still ended up biking through torn down paths.

-Random farm kitty cat lying right in the middle of the bike path. Seems dangerous when there's someone like me who doesn't always look up, but I'm sure the risk is worth the reward for the cat as we stopped to pet him and I'm sure others do as well.

-Right before LaPorte, the path wasn't in the best shape with lots of large tar-filled cracks. As we crossed one, Rachel freaks out, screaming, and nearly rides over me. I'm confused but she insists there was a snake. I went back and damn if it wasn't a 4-5 foot long snake right along the path, blending in really. Definitely the largest snake I've seen in the wild (non-zoo).

-Stopped in Brandon for lunch, might be Cowboy Days or Hillbilly Days as lots of people were around and the bar was closed off. No one hailed me with recognition though :(.

-The gravel started before Brandon and went for 20+ miles. This is where I went from feeling good to wanting the ride to be over.

-Last stop was in Center Point right before the path became paved again. I brought out the speakers and blared music the rest of the way in.

Fun, long, tiring ride. Glad I did it but not really wanting to do it again. After a day's rest and not being as sore as anticipated, I'm feeling better about doing it again someday, maybe even riding back as well. Always good to accomplish a goal, another cool thing was starting at my current appartment, riding past Loki's and my place in Evansdale, then past Drew's and my place in Brandon before finishing in Cedar Rapids and heading over to Drew's current place.

I feel like an explanation on how you got home after this ride would make sense in this log.

That's a long time in the saddle. Cool, nice work.

It was a long time, uffda.

Friday night I drove down and got a ride back with Kory who was heading this way. Many thanks to him and Sara.
