WU felt good and ended up timing it well. Though stomach and breathing were questionable (perhaps just due to indoors though).

No deuthman, so cholo was stuck with the lead as Colin/Solo took 2nd and I followed. The 1st lap was a pedestrian 38 before cholo got serious and split 2 35's with a slight gap. We rejoined on the 4th lap and stuck that way until the mile. The good news was that I started feeling better and better, even chopping my stride on the curves as I itched to go faster. Unfortunately, it wasn't cholo's day and my good feeling was actually due to the pace slowing.

We started running 37's then 38's but I forced myself to wait until after the mile (1600 just under 5). I took the lead just before 6 laps to go. And probably too strong of a move considering the leader was fading as I ran a <36 the next lap. I knew it was fast too and was unsure if I could hold the pace. Turns out I didn't as I continued with 2 37's and even another 38 (ugh).

Still, I had the lead with someone on me and maybe thinking a lot about the coming kick. I picked it up just before the final lap and waited to see what would happen. Solo passed on the backstretch and I made the effort to match his pace with the plan/prayer to see what I could to in the homestretch. The chance never materialized as I witnessed something new in my nearly 20 years on the track. The Luther runner we were lapping went wide to give us room, but his timing was terrible and Colin ran right into him, literally with hands on the lapped runner's back, and stumbled. I hadn't gone wide yet and missed the collision. Instead, I just got confused and tried to comprehend what just happened when I had little oxygen and little time to think. The result was me slowing down but still winning by a stride as Solo sprinted back.

Of course, I'm happy with the win, though I feel bad for Colin. And even for me, we were both deprived of finishing our kick and duel. Even with intentionally slowing, my last 200m was under 31. In general, a poorly paced and odd race, but a fun one filled with optimism.

Some personal 3k history: I finished within 10sec of my 3k PR (from 2009), something I haven't done since 2013 (in my 3rd 3k of that winter). So my fastest time in a while, though to be fair, I did run a 9:15 at my last 3k in 2016 at Wartburg.
