Notes
After about 8 hours of driving, I'd made it to Custer State Park in the Black Hills. I decided to do the shorter loop from Sylvan Lake tonight before tackling Black Elk Peak tomorrow. What I didn't realize is this route (Sunday Gulch) was actually hillier per mile than the long climb tomorrow.
After rounding the lake, the steep downhill was mostly natural (no stairs), but it had handrails on both sides. It was nice at some points, but I wonder if I would have just run smoother if I didn't have them to use.
The uphill then kicked my ass, 500ft of rocky climbing. Not sure how tomorrow is going to go.
Lots of shorter runs this week (4 5milers in a row? c'mon Nutmeg), but I'll say I did well with the conditions.
