Notes

I didn't plan on taking yesterday off. But I also didn't plan on running. So when I missed the brief morning hour when it wasn't torrential rain, it was easy to not get out.

Even with the rain, someone posted today that Sycamore was actually dry (maybe all the crazy wind today?). Might as well go back out I guess, even with 99% of my running last week being on trails. Solid day, a little faster than usual, maybe a little harder. Should probably do some strides.

LIFETIME UPDATE: I got curious the other day while thinking about running in hours, not in miles. So I checked out how many logged hours I've run. I'm sitting at 4180+ hours currently. If I assume a few hours for the year or 2 that I didn't log + early on when I only logged miles, not minutes, then I can confidently say I've run for about 6months of my life.

Absurdly extrapolate goals:

50,000 miles in 10 years

1 year of running in 20 years

100,000 miles of running in 30 years

Damn, half a lifetime of miles condensed into 6 months. That's crazy.

I can't decide if that's more or less than I expected. Some more stats:

Currently sitting at ~1.5% of my life has been running.

If I only include tracked years, it's ~3.6% of my time over the past 13 years.

Still, that's less than 1 hour a day. Surprising to me, I've only had 2 years in my life where I ran on average more than 1 hour a day.

Averaging 9+ mile per day does seem doable for certain training blocks, but as soon as you're injured or taking time away from proper training that average goes down pretty fast. It would be hard to maintain that volume for years on end. I guess that would be a good indicator of overall health ambition for fitness/miles.

It's impossible for me to imagine averaging 9 miles per day through a Grand Marais winter... Summer and fall would be quite easy given access to trails.

Maybe a better indicator would be my average time per day on days that I actually ran.

High point was 70min per day in 2011, though also my fewest days run at 261 due to a broken foot.

Not surprising the next year was more like 50min and the past few years have been hovering closer to an hour.

A typical year is 311 days run. The most was 2010, only missed 9 days as that was when I started my only notable run streak that ended with the aforementioned foot break.
