Notes
Met Sutton in Des Moines and he suggested the Drake Half route, something I'd never done and quickly realized I had no idea where this route went. Sutton led and I just ran mindlessly, occasionally looking about and seeing where we were. We passed most of the time telling old war stories (races of course).
There was some annoying rain for a few miles, but it passed without too much thought. It thankfully wasn't a chilling rain, though it did make for some unfortunate chaffing above the waist (which seems destined to happen twice a year or so).
Other than a pit stop at McDonald's (featuring understudy Sutton instead of my usual leading role) where I did a 100m stretch 5 5imes, we pretty much hovered around 6:40 the entire run. It felt like a casual pace the whole time, nevertheless, I stopped at 14,
Afterward, I was thinking 90min runs for my last several long runs wasn't quite ideal for a half marathon. But then I remembered that Dam to Dam is a 20k this final year. So obviously I am training just perfectly! :D
