A mid-morning 12 miler gone wrong with Pollux. We were just out the door when Pollux mentioned he wasn't 100% sure about the route since last time he came down on the trails. I said I didn't want to go back but convinced him that we should take the unknown way first (though it turns out my logic was off as I thought this would give us a shortcut option back, but it seems that was Pollux's initial plan all along).

As we made our way out of town to the North, it started to be clear our margins were thin as we didn't even go West until near 5miles. Then the hills began, first, with a nice warmup 200footer which didn't feel great. Then the main event: nearly 500ft up to the Reservoir again with a steep final section the reduced me to 9min pace. That also didn't feel great, but after that difficult section, nothing really felt hard after that. We had 3-4 miles of rolling hills upon which we also were rolling.

It was fun seeing each mile fly by with fast times, but our turnoff was also not appearing. We got to it right at 12, which meant this would be 14miles. I think I was now the one feeling better and would have gone further today just to make it a more impressive long run, but Pollux was fine heading straight back. I guess I'll still call it a long run, why not? I only hesitate because I don't want to do long runs every week and we might do 1 next week after the marathon trials.

Anyway, 2 of the downhill miles were <6min and I kept us rolling well for the last flatter mile to finish surprisingly strong 2 days after a workout (and 1 very lazy Saturday). I'll say I was glad to not need a bathroom this whole run, but I can't help but thik that it's almost concerning now as I basically haven't gone since the workout...

Classic Pollux! Pick a super committing route and not knowing exactly what it is!
