Drew signed me up for the 5th Season 8k, which I'd been thinking about doing prior to the adventure race. I knew I wasn't recovered from the previous Saturday's race (legs were heavy and tired previous night's run), but thought I could get caught up in the adrenaline of racing and have a good tempo run. 1st mile was more chaotic than other road races I can remember. Settled into 5:40ish pace before noticing Chase Nowak was just in front of me. Caught up to him and started chatting, which made the next few miles go by fast. He was only running because his fiancé was racing and wasn't in race shape. So when the pace started to lag, he told me to go ahead as he was slowing down. As happened in the 20k, it didn't take long for me to go from feeling good with a running partner, to feeling pretty crappy. Finished more tired than I had hoped (especially for a 28:37 8k, which wasn't much faster than my 20k pace), but I could tell it was a weary tired, triggered by the non-recovered legs. Not much of a motivator, but like the adventure race, hopefully it was a good workout to strengthen my legs and I'll move on to better things. ~4 mile cool-down with Drew afterwards.
