Town

Notes

I woke up, saw the temps were in the 50's, and practically ran out the door immediately I was so excited. That excitement was tempered when I got on a main road and the sun brightly hit my face. Instead of finding shade in the bike path, I meandered through childhood neighborhoods somewhat parallel to the bike path. Then I ventured into old Ankeny for a visit to (aptly named) Sunrise Park.

I do have to lament 1 thing. For years and years, there have been 2 stretches of gravel well within the borders of Ankeny. The longer 1mi+ stretch was paved a few years back for the new high school. And just recently, the 1/2mile gravel more-alley-than-road right in the middle of town was paved. It's not a big deal, I would run it maybe once every 30 Ankeny runs. But it always brought joy as I ran on gravel in the middle of suburbia.

Latest Log Oddity: I was again looking at my race victories, and since graduation (excluding Governor's Run), I have only successfully defended a victory once (Timber Trek 2013, a small mud/obstacle race). But what's even odder is: that is the only time I ever even TRIED to defend a title. I couldn't or declined to race the following year every other time (though I could still defend my 2019 Loop the Lake crown as it was cancelled in 2020 and my Luther Indoor 3k crown).
