Notes

Biked with Rachel, we probably got a little too ambitious today testing out the recently-flooded bike paths. It started off not too bad with some wet spots, then we tried some dirt trails to bypass a flooded area but just got muddy instead. Then we found the sand-over-path parts where I promptly fell (the ol' stop and feet are clipped-in move), but it wasn't the softest fall I've ever had as it was right into sand. Soon we started just biking through all the flooded areas, getting shoes and clothes wet and vowing to find a different way back (though it was pretty fun). Had some clean riding for awhile, turned around into a strong headwind (hate when that happens). Things were looking pretty good on the alternative way back until I thought we should try 1 more trail; it was flooded pretty quickly but so far forging ahead had worked out so I kept going. This led to getting lost, surrounded by flood waters, bikes unable to move due to mud, and worst of all - mosquitoes mosquitoes mosquitoes. I think I have 10+ bites on each arm and leg. We had to run out of there with our bikes. Back on the bike path (after 1 more near-fall as I wasn't paying attention and rode through some dried tire tracks), I looked pretty roughed-up with mud and bug-bites all over me and mud and sticks sticking out of my bike.

Thankfully my landlord was outside and offered me use of the hose to clean the bike. I doubt it will ever be that dirty again.
