Notes

I made my way into Yellowstone early this morning intent on getting to this climb before the crowds. In any case, it wasn't a worry as I only saw 1 person the entire time and even the parking lot couldn't handle much more (apparently tourists use the Grand Tetons for hiking, Yellowstone for driving). After some threatening omens, I decided to buy some bear spray which sadly doesn't come in a compact size, but it still barely fit in my running fanny pack thing.

I chose this route because it was another mountain climb, but it wasn't as tall or long. I should have done more research though, as it soon became apparent that this trail was much steeper than yesterday. I made it about a half mile before resorting to a walk and my hope of an easier slope vanished. The next 2 miles consisted of about half running and half hiking as I slowed whenever the trail became extremely steep. The last 1/4 mile was even mostly talus, so much for a good run. Even the downhill rarely felt smooth as I tried to not run too fast for the turns, which almost happened a few times. If yesterday's run hadn't gone so well, I probably would have tried to find another trail. The good news is I still got a heck of a workout, even if it wasn't run-specific.

Ouch! You will be strong for Headwaters.
