5th Season

Notes

This one doesn't deserve its own entry, or probably even a race status. 5th season with Drew. I wasn't expecting much but wanted to race to test the achilles and myself. Short warm up.

The 1st mile started fast but reigned it in feeling alright. But Drew was still right in front of me so I picked it up to catch him. A combination of staying with him and a personal stubbornness to think I was in similar shape as 2 months ago got me to the mile in under 5:30. That would be my fastest mile.

The 2nd mile was mostly uphill, and I managed to stay pretty strong with a 5:45. But I was already breathing audibly and my legs weren't loving it. And I was feeling hot despite the shade. I let Drew run ahead.

At the halfway turnaround, you could probably visibly see me give up. Even the downhills hardly helped. I finished about 2min slower than my last 8k.

There's a reason I almost never race in the summer, and this is a good example: very poor conditions. I'm also not in shape, for heat or for hills. My stomach didn't have a great time either, maybe just the heat, but I also haven't been as vigilent about taking care of it. My achilles was alright though, one upside.
