Notes

Another snowfall last night (couple inches). I wanted to get a longer run today since I'll be travelling Monday and it will be colder (I'm also considering moving my long run to Sundays since I tend to have more time and could run in the daylight, thoughts?). I wasn't really sure where I was going to run, but Rachel called and we just ran on streets, both plowed and unplowed, having fun in the snow while shovelers either encouraged us or mocked us. The hour went by fast, I guess it's been awhile since I've ran with anyone.

Part deux: After going back up to my apartment and starting to undress, I remembered I was going to do a long run, so I put my shoes back on and decided to grab my showshoes as well. This was going to be my 1st try showshoeing, so it took me a few minutes to put them on. Showshoe form is slightly different, obviously your feet are a little heavier with a wider surface area so it's easy to hit yourself with each stride. I'm confident the snowshoes slowed me down, but maybe that's because it was very fluffy snow and my feet still dropped a couple inches into the snow (and then the snowshoes would kick snow onto my back). I finished with an uphill that had snowdrifts, and I ran on the deepest part for a bit, which resulted in my heartrate skyrocketing, that was tiring.

The run was probably well over 7min pace the whole time, but I'm not too concerned. I think showshoeing will become a substitute for some runs when I want a harder effort but not the impact of a run.

Also (long post), it was nice to hit 55miles in 6 runs and not feel like it was that much. Especially considering the last 2 weeks have felt like more work (and they were only 30ish mile weeks!).
