Notes

Reminiscent of Dam to Dam this year, just bad conditions and slow running. Today was overcast (good) but warm and humid (bad). Unfortunately, my tactics weren't as good.

Being unsure of my fitness, I planned on going out easier than last year and my thoughts were 5:40 for 3 miles. I didn't force myself to the start of the crowd this year, thinking it wouldn't be that bad. And it wasn't, but I still should have started closer to the front.

After a minute of dodging slow people and then passing teammates, I spotted Joe ahead and casually made my way to him. I joined him and tried to relax. The mile marker said 5:45+ and I dumbly tried to pick up the pace as I forgot that it took me 10sec to get to start line. So still 10+ seconds slower than last year, but not as slow as I planned.

I got through the 2nd mile in another 5:35 and already wondering why I didn't stick with my original plan. It would only get slower from here. I would have slowed down regardless, but I certainly messed up these first 3 miles.

I hung on to Joe until halfway when we passed Chris. I was now solidly our 5th man (4 score) and not feeling good, so there wasn't much personal motivation. Thankfully this is the most crowded part of the race and I tried to feed off that.

But my pace slipped rather quickly and I was soon running closer to 6min pace. Thing was, I was still passing people, everyone felt terrible. I stopped passing people around 7 miles, and just tried hoped I'd still break 60.

Weird to think the windy conditions last year were so much better than this year (last mile was even slower this year I think). Good news is our team easily won, even if we hadn't added a young gun to the team.
