Waukee

Notes

Met Sutton at his new home in Waukee. It was the windiest day I've run in this winter and Waukee isn't known for wind blocks (no hills and newer construction). We passed through some neighbourhoods into the wind for a few miles before jumping on a bike path. Only this bike path doesn't get ploughed in the winter. Sutton knew this so we just took it easy for 2 miles going pretty slow.

Finally, we got out of that and onto a pleasantly cleared bike path. We knew we'd have a long stretch into the wind still but thought the snow running was over. So very wrong. We were on a busy road, and the sidewalk may have been clean at one point, but 3/4 of the time, snow had drifted onto it. The next 2 miles were quite lame as the wind sucked and there was never even a consistent amount of snow to run through like before.

Though I wouldn't say this one was miserable, it was one of the least fun routes this year. One last comment, it's not too often that I have a run with 2 non-consecutive miles at <7min pace and 3 non-consecutive miles at >8min pace. I almost called it a fartlek for that reason.
