Notes

35 and rainy are not ideal running conditions, let alone workout, let alone grass workout. But I wanted to do the workout today and it didn't look like conditions would improve much throughout the day. Plus, I wanted to mimic my potential race this weekend with the 8am start, grassy footing, and, according to the forecast, rain.

Just 4 pieces today, 2x2mile @ tempo/race pace, 2x1/2mile @ faster.

1) I started off strong and optimistic about the conditions as the ground was very hard and dry before this rain. After a half mile, though, the layer of rain became more noticeable and draining. 2 steep inclines and I would come through in 6:15: ugh, but not surprising. The 2nd mile had a longer but less steep hill and a mix of good and bad conditions, 6:12. Turns out this was actually a pretty idea speed as the last time I did Pleasant Creek I averaged 6:18. So at least I didn't push myself harder just to get sub 6.

2) And then I did exactly that for the next 2 miles: 6:01, 5:58. Actually, I just kept to the top section and avoided most of the hills and swampy sections, so I'd say these efforts would pretty comparable.

3) A long ~7min break before my next piece (though my first rest was a longer too at 3min + taking a mid-layer off) due to running over and then using a bathroom. This wasn't a very steadily paced 1/2mile but finished in the appropriate 2:50.

4) Another 4min before finishing with a steadier but slightly slower 2:52.

Good workout, shouldn't be too hard to recovery from this.
