My day off each week seems to be creeping earlier and earlier. Yesterday was another unplanned one as my feet were feeling tender (I need to stop doing long runs in shoes with over 500miles on them). But mostly it was another day where I kept putting off the run in hopes that it would warm up. Instead it started raining after work and I said "screw it."

Hence, a workout (I was hoping to do a workout today, but taking a day off always makes me want to make up for it). Last week was a long race and long run, so I figured today would be speedy. I was also back at the XC course with spikes on in case I make another attempt at a XC TT (it's also just a convenient place to workout).

6 x 300m @ mile

4 x (800m tempo into 300m @ mile)

The 300's were all about 53/54 seconds, aka 4:50ish pace. Some felt good, some felt fast, maybe the slight wind and slight inclines affected me more than I thought.

The 800's at tempo obviously felt quite easy compared to the 300's, not to say I wasn't tired during them though. I had to catch myself and keep an eye on my watch as it was easy to slow down without thinking. The tempo's were about 5:40 pace, not well paced though. The 300's afterwards didn't feel much different than the first 6, excepting the penultimate 300m, that one was slow.

I forgot to note: recovery was 2min between each. So that certainly helped. I'm sure it also helped that I have a low opinion of my current mile pace, regardless of whether or not I'm on grass.
