Huxley Track

Notes

While not that early of a wake-up, I was out the door quickly to take advantage of the dark. Why the dark you ask? My goal was to get on the Huxley track. It has been closed for months as the buildings around the track are being renovated or constructed (and I imagine everything was delayed after the derecho). After circling the track, I found a pretty easy squeeze in by the gate, though I would have preferred more exit points besides jumping fences if any workers did show up on a Sunday.

First part of workout: 6x1000m @ ~3:25 (CV)

3:38 - This wasn't as slow as it sounds, as I was approaching my first rep, my watch beeped its auto-lap of 2miles. Instead of hitting the lap button again, I just started, but I think it does take my watch a few seconds between the actual distance and the beep. So this was probably closer to 3:30 but still a bit of a warm-up rep.

3:29 - OK, still slower than ideal, though I am feeling very relaxed!

3:29 - WTF? Not that I worked harder on this one but I thought being fully warmed-up would help. Time to speed up.

3:21 - I guess I sped up too much.

3:20 - And now I'm just in this faster zone. I was shooting for 5 but added a 6th:

3:16 - And much too fast, whatever, it's not like I was killing myself. My excuse is that the dark and cold makes it difficult to check my splits.

I finished with 4x~200m. These felt much better in spikes and on a track than my usual routine of flats on a sidewalk. All were around the 34sec range but they felt like much more of a controlled sprint.
