Notes
Nice run with Lt Col Bill and Mark Brodier. Very hilly. Dry underfoot which was nice. About 5 mi in Mark revealed that a few years ago he won the Combined Services Marathon champs in 2:45ish and the Navy 10,000m in 32 mins. Thanks Mark - we'll keep the run steady shall we?!!! After a bit of prodding about his training he revealed that he was aiming for a 2:36, went through 20 in a shade under 2:00 and then "the wheels came off in spectacular fashion" - still a 2:45 from that is decent. His training was low mileage, high quality - mainly under 70mpw, never in doubles. I might take some of this on board for next year's road marathon debut.....
(we kept a steady, but constant, 8:10 pace over some v difficult terrain, chatting the whole way - made a lovely change from the dreadmill, but my achilles is now complaining.)
