About me:
I'm married and have a son, born in January, 2007. I'm a pretty standard guy ... I like watching sports on TV, puttering around with the yard, trying (unsuccessfully) to get my yard as green and lush as my neighbor's, and enjoy spending time with friends and family.
Why do I run:
I run because it gives me a sense of self-confidence that carries over into every other facet of my life. Even when I'm out of shape, when I plod through a 3-mile run at 9:45's in the morning, I feel better about myself and I'm more productive the rest of the day.
Why I started running:
I first started running because I didn't think I had the athletic ability to do anything else in 7th grade. Then I hit a growth spurt, lost a few lbs and got pretty good for my neck of the woods ... won a few high school races (though never in cross country ... lots of 2nd- and 3rd-place finishes behind two awesome teammates), and even ran D-III at St. Lawrence University. I started running again because I've fallen woefully out of shape, am at least 20 pounds overweight (more like 30 really), and I'm fast approaching my 30th birthday. My goal, which has been dubbed by some as "unrealistic and foolish" is to run 30K miles in my 30s. While it may be both of those, I'm going to give it a shot. See, I don't think I'll ever run a 16-minute 5K again. And I won't have the opportunity (or the desire) to break 2:00 in the 800-meter run, either. But this is a goal that means something, and hey, it's sound catchy too. In my college days I came pretty close to 3,000 miles a year, probably more in the range of 2,500, so I think this is doable. I'll be slower, but I'll be determined. And hey, maybe I'll start a trend ...
