Notes

Solid race/workout today at ONU despite some shitty lap counting and screw-ups by the officials. Went out in 73 which was perfect since I was looking to clip 73-74's for the majority of the run. Ended up being me, Joe Chavez, and some Judson guy for the first 600 and then after that it was just the 2 of us. Ended up being a pretty controlled race, I haven't been doing real workouts yet this year aside from wave fartleks or strong finishing progression runs so I have gotten really comfortable at 5:00 pace but have kind of forgotten how to push past that point. Nothing a few weeks of strong workouts can't fix though. Anyway Chavez and I switched every 4 laps or so but he was being a really doucher by flexing to his teammates and throwing up the O which was really weird. Started getting annoyed with his braggadocios behavior so after going through the 2 mile in 9:55 (4:56-4:59) I put him away really quick. I started to pick it back up and felt comfortably uncomfortable. I was in-control and felt very relaxed but didn't quite know how to push any harder. Probably would have helped to have company but I won't complain with a win either lol. Anyway, I noticed around 6 laps to go that the lap counter and the times seemed a bit off considering I was running pretty consistent laps. Slowed down a lot the last few laps and kinda started tempoing since I was getting told different laps to do by multiple people and just didn't know what to do. Went through 3 miles in 14:49 I think but then just coasted in and went through in 15:34 for my actual 5k and then 16:14 for the extra lap. Overall some of us had more laps, some people were short, and a few actually did the right distance. I didn't mind the extra laps, but I'm kinda pissed because it scrwed over some of our kids with conference times. Overall, happy with a good workout and while it honestly wasn't fast, it felt pretty smooth so I'm excited to get some strong workouts under my belt these next few months and hopefully give an attempt for sub 15 in the 5k later!
