Fun and challenging race today at Busse Woods. This was only Burkwald's 5th day running so he was going to build through and I couldn't find anybody else who looked legit to run with. Luckily, T.J. Luby showed up 20 minutes before the start and we planned on working together for as long as possible. When the race started, we just joked and talked for awhile about the season and stuff. We were together for the first 3 miles (5:40-5:35-5:25). After that T.J. said he was dropping so I just tried to maintain the pace I had and grind through it. I felt really good till the 8 mile and then I started getting tired haha. The pace bike lady tried having a conversation with me mid-race and I could only talk for so long before I would start huffing lol. Just imagined Johnny and Kerley along with the rest of the guys right ahead of me sticking their hands out and helping me stay connected. This really helped especially in the long straightaways where the trees didn't protect me from the wind. I tried not to force anything and just stay smooth at this point. Miles 9-11 were the hardest just because the pace biker dropped me to go get water for herself so I just had to constantly pretend that my teammates were there. Overall, a really fun experience and glad I got myself out here to do it even though it was pretty damn cold. No cool down because our clothes were soaked and the charter buses were leaving to take us back to the car. All-in-All a great long tempo effort and glad I got my feet wet with this new distance. Gonna have to give these halves a few more go's after college
