Fun race today in Tinley Park! I thought it was just going to be a solo effort but out of the blue Janet showed up after telling me he wasn't going to run it #sosouthside. Was really great catching up with him again and seeing him back in good fitness. Based off of what he was telling me with racing and workouts, I could tell he was currently in better shape than me so my goal was to hang with him for as long as possible. Well, that never happened. We got out pretty hard and Janet put a gap on me from the start. We both slowed down after the first mile but he kept about a 10-15 second gap on me for most of the race and I was just unable to get any closer. Regardless, I felt pretty strong today and even though the time isn't good it felt very smooth. Unfortunately, there were some icy patches so whenever I took a turn I had to be careful I didn't totally wipe out. Also, the course ended up being a bit longer than 5 miles so I'm glad I brought the Garmin. Came through the 5 in 26:29 which is ok for a road race and a starting point. Overall, felt very aerobic and controlled which was a solid plus but there was no way I could keep up with Janet today. Either way, good rust buster and really excited to actually be able to increase my mileage more! Hell term is almost over and I can almost taste freedom.

What a boy move, believing your GPS over a course. Like when he marked the bix as 7.08 or w/e....

Janet is so south side tho

The last race 2 races I've run in Tinley Park have been horribly marked and aren't official qualifying races like Bix, so they aren't measured accurately a lot of times. But I agree, very much a Thompsen move. Thank god I didn't look at my watch because if I saw a 5:20 mile I would have screamed OH MY SHIT
