It was lightly raining when we woke up on Sat and about 50F. We drove to the race to warm up on the course and it stopped raining during the warm up. The course was wet and and a bit of a mess in an area where part of a trail had been torn but was good to know ahead of time. I'm guessing there were over 50% kids and there were 200 people signed up. The same as last year a lot of the kids lined up in front, but this year it was chip timing so didn't worry about it but was still worried we were going to run over them. We started a few minutes late. It was funny watching the kids start out too fast. I had passed them all within a tenth of a mile. At this point there was one guy ahead of me. The first mile went pretty fast and ran in 5:54. At about that point, it starts to rain. Then we run through a park on some curvy wet trails plus the sidewalk that is messed up with mud, and gravel dumped on it in places. Ran mile 2 in 6:23. I didn't seem to be gaining or losing any ground on the guy in front of me.
A lot slower than I wanted to be but definitely was not rested for this race so I will take it.
