Hugh and I went up the night before and got there about 8 pm so the expo was closed but we had until 9 pm to pick up our packets. Got a nice jacket but pretty warm so won't be able to wear it until it is cool. We stayed at the Sheraton which is the race hotel on the 29th floor. Pretty awesome view! Also, it was right next to the race start and finish. We shared a pizza in the hotel bar/restaurant and went to bed.

We got up at 5:45 am and headed to the race around 6:40 am. Hugh was in the B corral and I was in the A corral. I looked around for Andrew and spotted him after a few minutes towering above everyone. I was somewhat near the back of the corral but still was close to the front. I didn't want to start out too fast.

After about 3 miles, I caught up to Mike from Columbia and we ran together for about 1.5 miles until I sped up going down a hill. There was a lot of going up and down hills. At 7.5 miles, I caught up to Phil, a 59 year old guy I often run with. Up to this point I hadn't been feeling great, but started to feel better when I began running with him. We ran together about a mile and then then ran ahead. I decided to take the one gel I had brought. I really didn't want to take it but figured I couldn't feel worse. Took it and felt much better.

Due to the hills my pace was really all over the place, but at 9 miles, I was at about 7 min pace average according to my GPS. I began to pass a lot of people, many were 10K people but also marathoners. I caught up to a guy I met at HOA marathon last year that had passed me earlier. It was nice passing lots of runners and I didn't notice anyone passing me. Mile 10 - 11 was uphill, then a little down, then up again, and then down and then a steep short up, and then a nice

down to the end. Time was 1:30:49.

After I found a guy from Columbia that had finished 4 min before. We waited a bit and his son finished and another friend. I missed several people like Andrew that should have come through while we were standing there. I went with my friend through the food line, took a nice green banana, some bars, and other food. We decided to have our picture taken since we were waiting on his wife to finish the 10K and Hugh to finish the half. While standing in line, Hugh came up behind

me. He finished in 1:48 and had a good race. We had our picture taken together.
