So... it's bad enough I do the 1500... but I've gotta come back and do the 800 right? sheesh...

There's like 20-25 people in this race... I start in lane 9, and they did the triple waterfall start thing... I can cut into 7 immediately, and in to 1 after the curve.

Gun goes off, and everyone takes off like a jet. I'm probably last in my section, and feel like I am going pretty fast.

Down the back stretch, as we merge, I probably end up in maybe 10th place... somewhere in there... with a gap opening up between me and the back of the pack... Just before the 200 mark, a gal passes me looking strong...

Around the corner it stays the same... into the wind, I feel like I just can't quite get close enough to the pack to stay out of the wind... but I am surprised at how bunched everything is... I am maybe 1 second out of 10th, and 3 seconds out of first.

First lap split was about 78. Slower than I wanted... but felt about right...

Second lap they all started to die... I caught a couple falling off the pack on the first turn, and on the back stretch I move up to the back of the pack of probably 8 or so... I'm close to the leaders, and feel like I should be able to just move around them all...

At 200 to go, I moved out into the second lane to start passing people, shifted gears, and there was nothing... I didn't have anything to shift to... so I tuck back into lane one...

100 to go I shift again... This time I hit the clutch right and start moving... I pass several people, including the guy I just couldn't quite catch in the 1500 and get 5th overall... first was only 3 second ahead of me.

Dang that hurt... once again I had to jog a lap immediately to keep my legs from tightening up too much...

Overall I am somewhat pleased with the day... I raced, had fun, and found out that my layoff with the hammy hasn't cost me too much... Dunno how much the morning workout took out, but probably enough that I could have run the 1500 as fast as last time...
