Started this run with Johnny. It was on a popular dirt road route known as Mailboxes (due to the location where most of the runners start at).
Struggled with wind, altitude, pace, and lots of fun negative self-talk. So after 2.5 miles, I walked back. And I had a serious talk with myself about all of the good things that happened to me because of running, after I left Hansons. And one of the biggest bright spots was meeting Meg Vaslow. If I didn't have a shoddy XC race in early 2019, I never would've wound up next t Meg on the NC USATF podium. We never would've become the great friends we are today, and I would've missed out cheering on her progression with the sport.
I texted Meg all this after I got back to the car, and we had a really nice conversation about lifelong friendship.
I know I'm pretty scattered and frazzled with running these days. But I've been fortunate to build relationships with people like Meg, who love me regardless of my paces and athletic accomplishments.
