First race of the indoor season was...okay. I missed scoring (top 6 at this race) by 2 places and 5-6 seconds. But this is just a benchmark, and I KNOW I am only getting fitter and faster from here. Race got out in a 76, and that was from where I was in quite a large pack -- we weren't even at the front. I was unfazed and ready to work. I made a lot of passes from lane 2 to move up, but settled into a pack that slowed to 80s...but I didn't know we were hitting splits that slow at the time. Raquel and Shelby were somewhere behind me.

Shelby came up on me with a few laps to go, gaining momentum. She ended up finishing 9:46. In my mind, I saw myself going out with teammates in the beginning of the race and fighting to hang on. I did not picture a teammate coming in strong and latching onto her in the later stages of the race. I was unprepared and watched her take off. In the future, I want to trust my training more in the late stages. I learned that teammates can show up to help me AT ANYTIME, and they are valuable resources when they appear. I also learned this race is shorter than I remember, so I cannot be afraid to get my legs seriously spinning...I don't need to save them for an extra 2k or 7k. ;) Shelby trusted her speed with a few laps to go, and it got her into a solid scoring position.

Finished with a short GS set (Simple 6, substituting a full rotation of planks for leg toss) 1x10, and 4 barefoot strides on the turf. Got my left plantar rubbed out by trainers after this.
