Notes

The conditions were very good with clear skies and only a light breeze on the backstraight. Since the race was in the early evening, the sun was only on top of us. With over 30 runners in the race, I had to start in the second line. My first lap split was 80 seconds. Unfortunately, the vast majority of runners were much faster than me and I was left in no-mans-land and had to run 95% of the race by myself. Only at the last 200m was I able to work and chase someone. While I was very winded at the end of the race (I was breathing very hard), I was surprised that my lungs were unaffected. On the other hand, I did feel some immediate soreness in my ass and hamstrings. This tells me that my body needs more work, while my lungs are very strong right now. Of course, this may only be a sign that I am focusing and training for the half marathon and not a fast 5,000m. Either way, I believe it will strengthen my body for the upcoming Eugene Half Marathon.

Unfortunately, the race further aggravated my left Achilles. I'm working on it.
