Notes

Overjoyed! This was by far a PR for me. Just 10 days ago, I did another 5K three minutes slower! What happened? I don't know. This course was not as hilly, and the wind was not blowing. I had taken it mostly easy during the week. I had worn only one layer - a tech shirt. I started out with the usual slow and oh so tired first half mile, and then settled in to my usual pace, so I thought. I was not behind any strollers, which are hard to pass, but did have a couple of little boys to deal with. I had no competition, as usual, but was running against my own PR. The run was mostly flat with a couple of little hills, and on a bike path that had mostly pavement, with one stretch of bark dust. It was out and in, and not marked really well. I stopped for 2 or 3 sec. at one point to decide which way to go. The one person I knew there from Florence, and who did the 10K, had taken a wrong turn, and added 5 or 6 minutes to his run. The people were friendly and in general it was well run. Only cost $2.00, plus there was a running shirt exchange, with extras going to charity. It was a friendly little race - maybe 60 people in all. Several young women made it a point to come around and talk to me afterwards - very nice. I am soooo happy. I had been down in the dumps and depressed about running for a while, but there is nothing like success.
